First a short intro into the person behind the camera.

Hi, I’m Mark—born in the late '70s, proud Everton supporter, long walk enthusiast, and a passionate wedding photographer based in Grimsby. When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me enjoying life with my partner, being outpaced by my 22-year-old (and much taller) son. I’ve always loved working with people—and now I get to tell their stories through honest, heartfelt photography.

What makes a good wedding photographer?

Choosing a wedding photographer isn’t just about finding someone who takes pretty pictures—it’s about finding someone who can tell your story, ease your nerves, and capture moments you didn’t even know were happening.

So, what really makes a good wedding photographer?

1. Storytelling Over Snapshots

A good photographer knows how to document the day—not just stage it. They’re looking for genuine emotion, the stolen glances, the happy tears, the bursts of laughter. Great wedding photography tells a story you can feel years down the line.

2. Professionalism & People Skills

Let’s be honest—wedding days can be chaotic. A great photographer is calm under pressure, blends into the background, and knows how to manage time and people without being bossy. They make couples feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera (even the camera-shy ones!).

3. Experience & Preparation

From understanding lighting in every condition to knowing how to react quickly when plans change, experienced photographers are ready for anything. They scout locations, know the timeline, and are always thinking three steps ahead.

4. An Artistic Eye

Creativity matters. Composition, lighting, emotion—these are the ingredients of a striking photo. A good wedding photographer sees moments developing before they happen and frames them in a way that’s both artistic and meaningful.

5. A Personal Connection

The best photos come when you feel relaxed and truly yourself. That’s why connection matters. A good photographer doesn’t just shoot your wedding—they invest in your story, get to know your vibe, and create a comfortable space for real moments to unfold.

In short? A good wedding photographer is part artist, part storyteller, part friend. They don't just take photos—they preserve memories in a way that's honest, beautiful, and uniquely you.

FAQ

How much will it cost me?

All prices can be found in the prices page on my website www.marklucasphotography.co.uk

Do I have to pay a deposit?

Yes, I take a £50 deposit. This simply secures your date in the diary and then the remaining balance is due 4 weeks before your wedding day.

How do we get our photos?

The photos are delivered on an online gallery where you can download the pictures from onto your devices

What happens if it rains all day on our wedding?

First—don’t worry! Some of the most romantic, dramatic, and heartfelt wedding photos I’ve taken have been in the rain. It’s all about embracing the day for what it is.

I always come prepared with clear umbrellas, backup indoor locations, and creative lighting techniques to make sure you still get beautiful, memorable images. Rain can actually bring a cozy, intimate feel to your photos—and those moody skies? They’re magic on camera.

At the end of the day, you’ll be married—and we’ll make the most of every moment, come rain or shine. Plus, dancing in the rain? Now that’s a memory.

How long does it take to receive the final edited photos?

I take great care in editing each image to truly reflect the emotion and beauty of your day. Typically, your full wedding gallery will be ready within 4 to 6 weeks.

During busier periods, editing may take a little longer, but I’ll always keep you in the loop. That said, I know how exciting it is to relive the day—so I send a sneak peek of a few highlights within 1–2 days after the wedding, perfect for sharing with friends and family while you wait for the full collection.

Your memories matter, and I want every photo to feel just right.
